Join us for our annual members only field trip to the Cleveland Museum of Art, where we will get an up-close & personal view of the Tuti-Nama (Tales of a Parrot) with Sonya Rhie Mace, the George P. Bickford Curator of Indian and Southeast Asian Art. This early 14th-century work was written in Persian and contains a series of fifty-two moralizing tales told by a talking parrot. The parrot’s stories were intended to distract a woman from an adulterous affair. The Cleveland Museum of Art’s copy of the manuscript was painted for Emperor Akbar (r. 1556–1605) and represents the origins of Mughal painting.
